Cellophane and tree

Like a lot of my photography, the ones I find most interesting, are of situations that I’ve stumbled upon. I found this sheet of plastic caught up in this tree, whilst walking in France.

This shiney piece of man made material looked alien tangled through the tree branches, and I had to photograph it. Something which seems to be present in almost all of my work (painting or otherwise) is an idea of absence and of slight discomfort. The paintings you see on the ‘work’ page were emotionally driven, and as a result were met with varying degrees of surprise and interest. They certainly caused universal dis-comfort for the viewer. Despite the essential role the process of painting these pieces played for me personally, they translated badly during assessment.
